Over the weekend of April 18-20th, during the Mid Atlantic Cake Show, I was invited to participate in a live competition in which we were given a 'mystery castle' to work with along with an unnamed airbrush color. All of the cakes were provided by Norman Davis of The Sweet Life (Food Network Cake Challenge competitor) as well as the fondant from Cal Java and the icing from Instant Whip. We basically had to come up with a design and work with what we were given and had only 3 hours to create it! I chose Laurie from Create-a-Cake as my partner. Below are a few snapshots from the competition taken by David Geaney of www.davidgeaney.com. We didn't win, but had a great time and thought Diana Lopez, who did win, was very much deserving of the prize!

And now onto the new cakes....
My entry for the Mid Atlantic Cake Show wedding cake competition. I was honored to tie for 7th place. There were 78+ wedding cakes on display.
The stitching alone on this cake took over 10 hours, as did the flowers. Everything, including the spool of ribbon, thread and pin cushion, is edible. The black and gold wedding cake was inspired by the fabric that covers the table.
A whimsical patriotic cake featuring a camouflage jacket, edible dog tags and fireworks.
Standing just shy of 3 feet tall, this garden gnome sits atop a toadstool. A custom built stand supported this completely edible cake all the way to Maryland and back without a ding, dent or crack! This cake took 2nd place in the Master's Special Techniques category.
A 4 tiered wedding cake featuring scrollwork, pink pearls and chocolate ribbon. Fresh flowers provided by the bride's mother.
Celebrating their 175th Anniversary, this tiered cake was created for Holy Trinity in Avon. It features sugared tiers at the top and bottom, as well as an edible trinity symbol and topper.
